FAQ

What to expect?

Each lesson is tailor-made for the right level and created by the lemon tree which includes online resources, interactive worksheets, plenty of homework, additional reading and listening materials, all provided by the Lemon Tree.

Can you help my child with their school homework or PowerPoint presentation?

Lessons and activities at The Lemon Tree are tailor-made and created by the Lemon Tree from a syllabus which includes games, online resources, interactive worksheets, reading and listening material, all provided by the Lemon Tree and completely different to the National Slovenian School Syllabus. We focus on English for life, not merely to pass grades in school. In the rare event that all the students in a particular group are all from the same class and attending the same school, lessons will occasionally deviate from the Lemon Tree syllabus to reinforce grammar taught in school. Once in a while, should time allow, school notebooks will be checked and corrected for mistakes, and additional help for homework will be provided. Power point projects from school must be done at home and the best we can do is check and correct for mistakes in the classroom.

My child is having difficulties with English at school. Can you help?

Yes, we can, but strongly suggest individual classes to suit that purpose. The Lemon Tree runs its own program which is completely different from the Slovenian School Syllabus. In a week or two leading up to the test, if given adequate notice, the teacher can go over their school notes and help them prepare for a school test provided all the kids in that group are from the same school and preferably the same class.

It is very important to stress that while group classes may hold kids of the same age, in some cases, they all attend different schools and trying to prepare everyone for the best grade is an impossible feat. The programs run at the Lemon Tree have been carefully crafted to also reinforce what has been taught as school. If your child is struggling with poor grades, we recommend an individual course for them.

What teaching method does The Lemon Tree use?

The Lemon Tree students learn mostly through gameplay (board games and dramatic role-play amongst a few) and the communicative method of teaching alongside tried and tested traditional methods that have stood the test of time. This means that classroom time is spent on using real-life practical solutions to focus on the four key language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Classroom activities reflect real-life situations, and are structured so students communicate as much as possible.

What if my child misses class?

When students miss a class, they miss an opportunity for learning. They also cause some disruption for the other students in the class as they will have gaps in their knowledge, and will miss the required building blocks for further language development.

  • In the event that a student will not be able to attend classes, notice must be given at least 2 hours before the classes start. Failure to do so will count as an attended class.
  • If notice is given prior to in-attendance, students will be placed in the next available group class should there be one available. If there isn’t one available, the class will be forfeited.
  • For in-person individual classes, classes will be rescheduled if proper notice is given prior.
  • In the event of a school holiday where half the class might be missing for a few days, an invoice will be issued according to how many hours were attended during the month.
